Planning for the 2014 Season is in progress.

Planning for the 2014 Season is in progress so let me know the events and dates as the events pop up. We were pretty organized last year, hopefully 2014 will be just as good, if not better!

Rocking the Jerseys.... Oddball Style

Jerseys are in and look great. Thanks to Kamloops Paintball Games, KMS Tools, and Ntensity Customs.

If you didn't get yours at the field, you can pick it up at my house.

Jersey Designs

So here is how they will look:
Price is as follows:
  • $70 each (as pictured).
  • $7 additional if we want our names printed on the collars
  • $7 additional if we want print on the mesh (I was thinking blue polka dots to make it "odd")
I have everyone's deposits, sponsor contributions, and additional money from Kevin S. and Wade F. from hosting Miami Vice (Kevin and Wade have both paid for their jerseys in full -$320 from them alone, thanks!). That means $1000 total has been collected.

Even if we did printed mesh and collars, the total with tax/shipping would be $55-$60 per person for a totally custom jersey. My vote is for random blue polka dots on the mesh (oddballs, get it?) and skip the names on the collars.

Miami Vice was a Success

Miami Vice was definitely not a regular scenario Sunday. More Hawaiian shirts at KPG than you would see in Hawaii, sleazy moustaches, nerf swords, and "gold chains" were in abundance. I think there were approximately 70 players which was good as we were expecting 60-80.

We played a variation of CTF with contraband bags, a hostage game with bases to defend and hostages to rescue with a covert squad, a collect the evidence game with props on the field (only 3 of 5 were found) and cards in headbands for lives/evidence, a traitor game where a young player took out 6-8 of his teammates (he was suppose to go after the leader) before he got taken out, and of course "mayhem" where you could shoot an opponent or barrel tag a teammate to take their raffle ticket(s) that they were carrying (everyone went out with one card, some came back with 10!).

There were some minor glitches which had to be expected for a series of games never played before. However, from player's feedback: everyone was happy with the variation of games, quality of play, sportsmanship, and all around good times.

Thanks to all the sponsors who donated goods to the raffle: Kamloops Paintball Games, KMS Tools, Gary's Deli, Taboo Cycles, Spitfire Grill, The Pig Rig, BuyPbl, and Monster Garage.

Thanks also to all the regular players, the "out of towners", renters, Fighting Hobos, and to all the Oddballs who played with great honour and sportsmanship to make the event a big success. Way to represent everyone!

Now, who is going to plan "Vice 2" for next year?

Miami Vice up at KPG this weekend, July 28th

Check the "events" section for more details.

Things I know so far.
Prizes: TPX Pistol, signed Edmonton Impact Jersey, Certificates from KMS tools for paint/discounts/co2 refills, selections of meats from Gary's Deli, and more.

Raffle tickets can be earned throughout the day during games for completing certain objectives.

The games are actually all "Miami Vice" themed and tie into one another to create a story. You will need a leader with a plan and team work to be successful. A set of rules for the games throughout the day will be handed out to the team captains.

60-80 people expected (maybe more). Lots of people from out of town... I would go early (11:00) to get good parking, fill HPA/CO2, and chronograph your marker. A couple of oddballs will be refereeing since we will be playing some big and intense games... even if I don't get to play this time, hopefully there will be a Miami Vice Part 2!

Designing the Jerseys.

This is not exactly how they will look as some of the "fonts" are incorrect. The "Kamloops" under the KMS logo will be the same font as their company logo (the program I used did not have the trebuchet font). The name and numbers on the back may be in a different font also... I was just experimenting with color.

The front logo, rear logo, and one shoulder is taken. Arm spots are still available. I will probably leave room for a Canadian flag (for when we travel to the USA) and an Oddballs logo on the right arm. The rear portion under where your pack sits will be covered in logos of the gun manufacturers that we use (Eclipse, Bob Long, DYE, Tippmann, Macdev, and Empire).

I will be asking for a $30 deposit on these from each team member before I send in the order. You can just bring it to Miami Vice or stop by my house. For the accountant types amongst us, I will have the invoices after the order.

I am also expecting the patches to be in this week. YAHOO!

The black parts in the pictures are the mesh which will run along both sides and under each arm.

All the decals are in and the patches are in the mail...

I have all the stickers (50 total, I kept six). Make sure you clean your gear before you try to stick them on as they don't seem to like to stick to paintball residue, oops. Still only $1 each (I have the receipt). I will bring them out on the 28th unless you want to pick them up.

The patches are also in the mail and will be great until we get our jerseys made up. Once we have the jerseys, my patch will be going on my pants somewhere. :)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am still trying to get a few more sponsors.

The important thing to remember is how we as a team can benefit a sponsor besides just an advertising logo. I have already approached the following companies:

Kamloops Paintball Games (thanks, Aaron) -- where we play an awful lot, some of us have also helped out at the field (ask about price matching!)
Ntensity Customs (thanks, Shawn) -- where we will be getting the jerseys designed and made
Chameleon Creative (thanks, Chad) -- designed the Oddballs logo
KMS Tools (thanks, Larson) -- we buy lots of their paint for Outlaw games (they actually expanded their selection, it looks good and the prices are better than online)

Empire Paintball -- I sent off an application as most of us use their gear (mask, marker, pads, etc)

Hoping to get:
Paintballgear.ca -- another source of hard to find gear and the largest BC online store
Beverage/food company -- for those camping excursion events

And I know some of you have been asking employers who support community sport teams. Thanks!

Logos are starting to arrive

Here is the first batch of decals. More decals (same size) and arm patches will be here soon.

We are also looking at getting some custom jerseys made with the addition of sponsor logos. We have come up with a great list of businesses/companies that we support and would love to advertise/represent on and off the field. Hopefully, we can convince them to have their logos added to our jerseys and support our great team (we have had a fun year, eh?!). Hopefully they have some stickers too as I know where they will go!

Operation Overlord Completed

... With an astounding victory for the Axis team (Oddballs was Platoon I). Such a success that the allies surrendered Phase 4 as they could not get enough points to make a difference. Mud, mosquitos, thunder storm, and lots of welts... Operation Overlord lived up to the hype.

Check out the updated video and picture gallery.

Oddballs Logo

Yes, it is a Panda with large cahones. Thanks to Chad Fontaine from Chameleon Creative Graphic and Web Design, who did this in his spare time (which he has little of as he too has children).

Decals are ordered (30 Total @ $1.00 each, arrive approximately July 12th). Waiting on the final number for patches. They will be $7.50-$8.00 each and made out of PVC rubber (so they last) with a Velcro backing.

See the facebook page to sign up for patches.

Operation Overlord is almost here...

Pack your bags... and bring gumboots? Mosquito spray? Anti-fog? Okay, obviously the location at Greenwood, BC is going to be a little different than we are used to here in Kamloops. Prepare for a moist environment and pack your camping gear accordingly. I think I have dug up 3 different types of bug spray and now I need to find my tarp so I can create some form of canopy.

Prepare for the worst (wet, rain) and hope for the best (sun, sun, sun!).

Supergame 45 was great... Now we wait for Operation Overlord

You need to attend the event next year --- > If you like six tanks running around the field while guys with rocket launchers tried to take them out (you soon got sensitive to the sound of tanks approaching or launchers firing). Or if you like to surprise groups of 10-30 guys and shoot half a hopper into them. Or if you like to battle back and forth across a massive field for objectives all day in a tightly contested back and forth battle. Or if you like to flank the other team and shoot them as they casually walk back into play and then they later rush the two of you with 50-60 guys. Or if you like teammates (200 renegades) switching sides five minutes later and then shooting at you. Or if you like lasers, music, beer, smoke machines, and playing paintball all day with breaks only for air and paint.

Ya. It was awesome. Definitely going next year.

Now come on Operation Overlord!

Big Game and some other Events

Hamburger Hill is looking like a bust as anyone who will be playing on April 21st will probably be going to the Outlaw game in Kelowna (Postil #2) or heading to KPG.

Supergame XLV is a go for three of us who are carpooling down Friday morning and driving back Sunday night. Thanks Kevin S.! Last year there were over 1000 players... now that sounds like fun/mayhem!

Also added some information about the "Tippmann Challenge" event that will be in October in Langley at Panther Paintball.

2013 Season Warming Up

Seems like the 2013 season is starting up in full swing now. Snow is melting (all gone at lower levels), weather is warm, and gear is clean (or not). We snuck in a game out in Kelowna and there have been three trips to Bushwackers in Vernon (since nothing has been happening locally, stupid snow).

Remember that April 7th will be the KPG grand opening.

We will also be doing a practice session one evening to share some knowledge and practice some skills & do some drills. Don't worry, it will be relaxed... no superman dives.

Also, don't forget that when you sign up for Operation Overlord you will want to be on the "Axis" side as that is the side all the interior/Kamloops players will be on. There is also the scenario game out in Maple Ridge on April 21st, but there does not seem to be much interest in it yet.

2013 Kamloops and Area

Something different is happening this year for 2013. What is it? The creation of a strange paintball team. Oddballs.

Oddballs will be a bushball, scenario, outlaw, and speedball team that will be based out of Kamloops, BC. How is this going to be so? By getting together a group of likeminded people of varying backgrounds, playing styles, and experience so that we have enough players to represent Oddballs at varying venues and games. The team members will pride themselve on honorable play and sportsmanship where ever they represent Oddballs.
Currently, there are three founding members who will be recruiting.

We will have a certain style of Jersey to identify us (multicam - will be orderable at a fair price if you do not own a multicam jersey). We are currently working with a graphic artist who is designing a logo which will be made into stickers, patches, and eventually silk screened onto our jerseys. There will be a small not for profit fee associated with these items.

We will organize practices when we can, and post events that we will/should be playing/competing in. And most of all, we will not be too serious and have fun because in the end, we will all just be a bunch of Oddballs.

A Couple of Logo Sketches

Here are a couple of sketches from our Graphic Artist, Chad Fontaine (thanks brother!).

While this one is odd, it may be a little hard to read if you lack imagination. Oddballs or DDballs?

This is my favorite. Easy to read text and a cute little panda. I suggested "sewing" the panda's mouth shut, giving the panda zombie eyes, and possibly putting some pants on the panda with "two bulges in the front" indicative of a panda with some cojones.

If you have some creative logos you wish to submit, contact me via facebook.

Once the final sketch is finalized, through some process I do not understand it will be made into a computer image, and sent off so that it can be turned into vinyl decals (for your hopper) and vinyl velcro patches. Eventually we will get it printed on our jerseys.

By Wade Fontaine.
