Miami Vice was a Success

Miami Vice was definitely not a regular scenario Sunday. More Hawaiian shirts at KPG than you would see in Hawaii, sleazy moustaches, nerf swords, and "gold chains" were in abundance. I think there were approximately 70 players which was good as we were expecting 60-80.

We played a variation of CTF with contraband bags, a hostage game with bases to defend and hostages to rescue with a covert squad, a collect the evidence game with props on the field (only 3 of 5 were found) and cards in headbands for lives/evidence, a traitor game where a young player took out 6-8 of his teammates (he was suppose to go after the leader) before he got taken out, and of course "mayhem" where you could shoot an opponent or barrel tag a teammate to take their raffle ticket(s) that they were carrying (everyone went out with one card, some came back with 10!).

There were some minor glitches which had to be expected for a series of games never played before. However, from player's feedback: everyone was happy with the variation of games, quality of play, sportsmanship, and all around good times.

Thanks to all the sponsors who donated goods to the raffle: Kamloops Paintball Games, KMS Tools, Gary's Deli, Taboo Cycles, Spitfire Grill, The Pig Rig, BuyPbl, and Monster Garage.

Thanks also to all the regular players, the "out of towners", renters, Fighting Hobos, and to all the Oddballs who played with great honour and sportsmanship to make the event a big success. Way to represent everyone!

Now, who is going to plan "Vice 2" for next year?

Miami Vice up at KPG this weekend, July 28th

Check the "events" section for more details.

Things I know so far.
Prizes: TPX Pistol, signed Edmonton Impact Jersey, Certificates from KMS tools for paint/discounts/co2 refills, selections of meats from Gary's Deli, and more.

Raffle tickets can be earned throughout the day during games for completing certain objectives.

The games are actually all "Miami Vice" themed and tie into one another to create a story. You will need a leader with a plan and team work to be successful. A set of rules for the games throughout the day will be handed out to the team captains.

60-80 people expected (maybe more). Lots of people from out of town... I would go early (11:00) to get good parking, fill HPA/CO2, and chronograph your marker. A couple of oddballs will be refereeing since we will be playing some big and intense games... even if I don't get to play this time, hopefully there will be a Miami Vice Part 2!

Designing the Jerseys.

This is not exactly how they will look as some of the "fonts" are incorrect. The "Kamloops" under the KMS logo will be the same font as their company logo (the program I used did not have the trebuchet font). The name and numbers on the back may be in a different font also... I was just experimenting with color.

The front logo, rear logo, and one shoulder is taken. Arm spots are still available. I will probably leave room for a Canadian flag (for when we travel to the USA) and an Oddballs logo on the right arm. The rear portion under where your pack sits will be covered in logos of the gun manufacturers that we use (Eclipse, Bob Long, DYE, Tippmann, Macdev, and Empire).

I will be asking for a $30 deposit on these from each team member before I send in the order. You can just bring it to Miami Vice or stop by my house. For the accountant types amongst us, I will have the invoices after the order.

I am also expecting the patches to be in this week. YAHOO!

The black parts in the pictures are the mesh which will run along both sides and under each arm.

All the decals are in and the patches are in the mail...

I have all the stickers (50 total, I kept six). Make sure you clean your gear before you try to stick them on as they don't seem to like to stick to paintball residue, oops. Still only $1 each (I have the receipt). I will bring them out on the 28th unless you want to pick them up.

The patches are also in the mail and will be great until we get our jerseys made up. Once we have the jerseys, my patch will be going on my pants somewhere. :)

I am still trying to get a few more sponsors.

The important thing to remember is how we as a team can benefit a sponsor besides just an advertising logo. I have already approached the following companies:

Kamloops Paintball Games (thanks, Aaron) -- where we play an awful lot, some of us have also helped out at the field (ask about price matching!)
Ntensity Customs (thanks, Shawn) -- where we will be getting the jerseys designed and made
Chameleon Creative (thanks, Chad) -- designed the Oddballs logo
KMS Tools (thanks, Larson) -- we buy lots of their paint for Outlaw games (they actually expanded their selection, it looks good and the prices are better than online)

Empire Paintball -- I sent off an application as most of us use their gear (mask, marker, pads, etc)

Hoping to get:
Paintballgear.ca -- another source of hard to find gear and the largest BC online store
Beverage/food company -- for those camping excursion events

And I know some of you have been asking employers who support community sport teams. Thanks!

Logos are starting to arrive

Here is the first batch of decals. More decals (same size) and arm patches will be here soon.

We are also looking at getting some custom jerseys made with the addition of sponsor logos. We have come up with a great list of businesses/companies that we support and would love to advertise/represent on and off the field. Hopefully, we can convince them to have their logos added to our jerseys and support our great team (we have had a fun year, eh?!). Hopefully they have some stickers too as I know where they will go!

Operation Overlord Completed

... With an astounding victory for the Axis team (Oddballs was Platoon I). Such a success that the allies surrendered Phase 4 as they could not get enough points to make a difference. Mud, mosquitos, thunder storm, and lots of welts... Operation Overlord lived up to the hype.
